A Very Special Maternity Shoot

A Very Special Maternity Shoot

The best part of this job is being a part of some of the best memories in our clients’ lives. Recently I got to photograph a very special session that was a first for me…a Surrogacy Maternity Shoot!

This incredible story starts with Rachel, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer as a child and given 6 months to live. In order to do everything possible to save her life, she received multiple rounds of chemotherapy at St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia. Against the odds, Rachel went into complete remission and has remained cancer free since! In addition to the chemotherapy treatments, she also had to undergo several surgeries, including a partial hysterectomy. Mindful of Rachel’s future desires to become a mother, doctors were careful to preserve her ovaries during treatment.

When Rachel and Matt married, they knew building a family would be challenging, but they kept their minds and hearts open to all possibilities. After 2 rounds of IVF for egg retrieval and freezing, the couple began exploring surrogacy as a path. In the spring of 2016 they connected with Reproductive Possibilities, LLC, an agency specializing in matching parents with surrogates. A few months later, Rachel and Matt were matched with Stacy.

When Rachel and Stacy first spoke on the phone, there was an immediate connection. After the call, Rachel recalls telling Matt, “she is exactly who I dreamed of finding!” The couple met Stacy and her husband Brandon in person, and the time spent together only reinforced how good everyone felt about working together.

The first frozen embryo transfer was in July 2017. Then Stacy called with shocking news- she had a positive pregnancy test!!

Rachel’s own beautiful words capture the heart of this miraculous process: “I honestly feel as if the universe sent me an angel here on Earth and I will be forever amazed by her and grateful for this beautiful and selfless gift she is giving us.”

The way that I got connected to these amazing people is through Stacy & Brandon, who own HELLO BEAUTIFUL BOUTIQUE, a locally handcrafted & eco-friendly product shop in Cambridge Springs, PA. Being a fellow Small Business owner, Stacy and I made friends through a few vendor shows. I was delighted that she thought of me when Rachel & Matt were looking for a photographer to capture maternity photos! This incredible story of 2 families joining together to bring life into this world will forever hold a special place in my heart <3 Thank you Rachel & Matt and Stacy & Brandon for including me in this journey!!
